The versatile African baskets were hand woven in Senegal by local artisans from cattail, a grass-like plant, and colorful plastic threads which add strength and durability. The baskets are vibrant and lively, adding a splash of spirit and color to any home decor.

Mbare, whose name means “a gathering of things” or “marketplace”, specializes in importing Fair Trade African art and home goods that are made from natural and recycled materials. All items are handcrafted by artisans located in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Swaziland, Niger and Senegal. Founder Robbie Stewart started the company as a way to support local artists in Zimbabwe, by creating a sustainable source of income. The company strives to pass along culture and the spirit of Africa through the artwork that it imports, enriching the lives consumers and the lives of the artisans.
