Uncovering The Dirtiest Stuff In Your Home

Uncovering The Dirtiest Stuff In Your Home

The fight to keep your home healthy and clean is more like a never-ending battle. Here's a really frightening thought: Your most commonly used everyday items might look clean, but they're actually the ones covered with the most germs. We all know the obvious germy havens—the kitchen sink, the refrigerator handle, toothbrush holders, the bathroom toilet, cleaning equipment like that mop that never seems to dry out. Here are 5 other areas to be aware of to make sure your home is truly sparkling clean and germ-free. Tip: To minimize germs at home and protect yourself and your family from getting sick, wash your hands regularly.

Electronics. From your cell phone and keyboard to TV remote to your child’s video game controller, germs are everywhere, when it comes to cleaning, these electronics are rarely first on the list. These everyday devices are magnets for grime from food, dirt and unwanted bacteria. Wipe them down daily with a soft cloth sprayed with glass or everyday cleaner or a specific product like Windex electronic wipes.

Window and door tracks. These small, hard-to-reach and easy-to-overlook areas are depositories for dirt, dust and, yuck, dead bugs. Even though they may be tough to clean, the crevices should be wiped down with alcohol on a wet cloth or vacuumed regularly.

Dish towels and sponges. How frequently do you throw your dish towels in the laundry or throw out your sponges? That's what we thought! These cleaning materials should be washed daily because they continually hold moisture and are typically used for multiple tasks throughout your home. Another tip: Toss sponges into the dishwasher right before you start a load.

The washing machine. You'd think the process of cleaning your clothes would also clean your washing machine, but it actually doesn't. It’s a no brainer that leaving wet clothes in your washing machine can cause mold buildup and a germy explosion. Problem is, even after clothes are re-rinsed and removed, the germs are still left inside. It is important to clean the inside of your machine, especially your washing drum, and do it often. Clorox Washing Machine Cleaner is a great product to remove the dirty build-up and deodorize the machine. Tip: Make sure to disinfect any surfaces used to fold your clean clothes before you take the out of the dryer.

Light switches, knobs and handles. Think of all the times these surfaces get touched, yet how often do you really clean them? Give them all a good swipe. Tip: It's important to change out the wipes frequently when cleaning these areas so that you’re not spreading the dirt.
