Consumers Report Over 10,000 Complaints On Movers In 2013

The Better Business Bureau announced today that there were 10,762 consumer complaints filed against moving and storage companies in 2013. Complaints included missing belongings, damaged furniture and other possessions, damage to the home caused during a move, poor customer service, charges that exceeded an estimate and difficulty obtaining compensation for damaged and lost possessions. Some of the worst cases reported involved belongings that were “held hostage” until additional fees were paid.

To avoid a moving nightmare you must take certain precautions when dealing with moving and storage companies. According to the Better Business Bureau the three most common reasons consumers experience difficulty with moving companies are failure to thoroughly research the mover’s credentials, not preparing far enough in advance and not buying appropriate insurance to cover belongings.
